Pros: Friendly, helpful staff; wide range of food; beautiful facility and grounds
Cons: new landscaping means shade is sparse (this will change quickly, I'm sure!)

We stayed at the Palace Pacifico from October 31 to Nov 7, 2008. Everything about the hotel is classy and luxurious, from the lobby, to the restaurants, to the pool, to the rooms. We were on the 7th floor, with an ocean view, which allowed us to enjoy some spectacular sunsets.

Our room featured a king size bed, jacuzzi tub, and a sunken living room, as well as a decently-sized balcony. Very comfy!

We found the food to be between good and excellent. Our favourite restaurant was Krystal fusion - returned to this one a second time before we left. Of the a la cartes, the Kyoto Japanese was our least favourite, however, other guests we spoke to said they very much enjoyed their meal there, so I'm counting our experience as an anomaly. The pool was beautiful, and the entertainment staff had lots of activities if you wanted to play. The hotel was apparently at about 40% capacity during our stay, and as such, there was never a line-up for anything.

Although there is a 'kids club' area, overall, I'd suggest that this hotel is more geared for adults. I suspect that once the high tourism season hits, and prices rise, you'll see less families, and more couples.

We found the beach to be kept very clean, although few used the beach for sunning (again, there was precious little shade there, as the palm trees are recently planted).

This was our first visit to a Riu Hotel, and if this is an indication, it definitely won't be our last!
