Pros:
Cons:

Hotel Riu El Mansour, Tunisia

The hotel in Tunisia was a lot smaller than the Caribbean RIUs. It is a stand alone hotel (so no exchange privileges), and only one restaurant (buffet) which was large, lots of choice and good quality. We went out of season for Tunisia (November) and the hotel was only 50% full. So they only opened one bar at a time, which for us was a bit of a pain, as one was outside and one was inside, and sometimes they only had the inside one open during the day which was a very long walk and up two flights of stairs from the beach! The cocktails in Tunisia are really dreadful, the wine is okish, and the beer not bad. This we were told by staff is because there really isn't much of drinking culture in Tunisia, which is fair enough.

However, we only went for a week and really liked the intimate nature of the hotel, everyone was really friendly and being a smaller hotel with only one restaurant you could get to know people quite easily. We found the Tunisian staff really friendly and helpful. However there wasn't an animation team in the same way as there is in the Caribbean ones (although this could have been because we were there out of season). No pool or beach activities, only a dreadful evening show, which usually consisted of a quiz (which didn't really work because a lot of guests were German and Italian speaking) or a magic show or something.

As for excursions, Tunisia is excellent for that there is loads to see. I would recommend the area the el mansour is in as it is less 'touristy' (the reason we chose this RIU over the El Kabir).

I would definitely recommend Tunisia for a change of culture and scenery (from Europe and the Caribbean), however, we spent 5 out of the 7 days we were there out of the hotel, and as the hotel was quite small if we had been there for any longer I think we would have got bored of it, and as you know this does not really happen in the big Caribbean RIU complexes.

Pros: staff
Cons: building work no designated seating area steps ramps

now i must make things clear before we start .

we originally booked the riu imperial marhaba in port el kantaoui after a seamless flight and transfer we arrived at the said hotel at 10pm ,we had a quick freshen up we had a late dinner and then went for a look about and found the set up to be floored ,no designated seating just lots of chairs with very high backs nice looking but not conducive to social interaction ,two bars that weren't all inc ,ramps inside and out which were to steep to navigate in a wheelchair indepently ,then to top it off when we went to the pool area we were confronted by sweaty Tunisian builders swinging on ropes and climbing up homemade ladders and all this after we had been assured by our ta in Worcester that the building work had finished Grrr ,we attended the welcome meeting were we asked the rep for a move which she duly did .

we were moved to the riu belevue park an hotel we had stayed before ,and now our holiday began .

just a quick summary the belevue is a fantastic hotel great staff good layout ,nice verity of food ,sometimes a little overcooked amazing pool area pool manager such a ray of sunshine all in all the hotel to stay if you visit port el kantoui

rating 9- 10
