Pros: on the beach and close to the main street with disco
Cons:

My Fieance and I stayed here in November 2006 after a marathon project at work. Felt that we needed some time to relax. Yes I have to admit it did take me three days to finaly relax. We enjoyed meeting new friends from europe and other parts of Canada. The staff were very upbeat and fun to be around from the waiters, waitresses, bar tenders and animation teams. The enjoyment that we had going to the other resorts was great as we got to see several different shows. Micheal Jackson tribute rocks. The use of the beach equipment eg catermrands was awsome and snorkaling was fun too. It was 2 weeks of being treated like royalty.

Pros: Everything
Cons: None

We returned from a one week stay on July 1 and are going back on August 25, for another week. Everything was great. The entertainment team was sensational. They work very hard and are always trying to please everyone. Some of them even speak up to five languages. The beach is the most beautiful I have ever seen. Clear water and white sand. Food was good. Always a good selection and always something we liked. We had a fantastic time and can't wait to go back (obviously).

Pros: Beach, Cleanliness of resort and rooms
Cons: A lot of things broken or in need of repair in rooms

We stayed at the Taino from January 25 to February 8. We stayed in 3 different rooms during our stay. The first room was near the back of the resort and my husband has low vision and I was afraid he couldn't find the room by himself. They moved us to a room closer to the reception and pool area. This room had a number of things wrong with it. I reported the problems we were having to the front desk and was told a maintenance man would come. I waited until Thursday and still no maintenance man. We were at the main reception desk and I explained the problems with the room to the night manager. Within 5 minutes of returning to our room the maintenance man was there. He fixed what he could and we appreciated it very much. Our second move was requested by the hotel, our room was a handicapped room and they needed it for a handicapped person. Our next room had similar problems as the previous one. Since we were part way through our second week, I didn't bother to let management know. I was rather disappointed in the condition of the rooms since RIU bills this as a 5 star resort and Sunquest bills it as 4 1/2 stars. The beach is awesome, the meals were good, we went to the steakhouse twice during our stay and enjoyed both meals. The staff try very hard to ensure you have an enjoyable vacation. Personally, we would not go back to the Taino.

Pros: staff and the beach and pool are near each other
Cons: none

We just got back from our 2nd visit to the Taino. Charlie and the Animation crew go out of their way to make people feel welcomed. Small tipping worked very well for room service, bar staff, and wait crew. Our waiter Escobel was wonderful. Julio at the front desk was there to help whenever he could. Transportation to and from the airport with Hotel Beds went very smooth. The weather was great, the ocean was beautiful. We enjoyed the Italian restaurant again and the trip to Saona Island was money well spent. A great time was had by the whole family.

Pros: Animation Team Headed by Charlie Lopez
Cons: Older Resort

I just got back from a two week stay with my family at the Riu Tiano. My family and I enjoyed this resort so much that we have vacationed here 3 times in a row spending two weeks each time. The staff at the Tiano have become our second family. Even when staff move on, you are quick to make new friends. They bend over backwards to try and accommodate your needs. To give you a good example of this was on the first year we travel to the Tiano, after my car accident that put me in a wheelchair. We arrived for dinner and quickly realized that my wheelchair would not fit under the dinning table. Franklyn Trinidad the assistant manager at the time quickly went to work cutting the lip off this table to better accommodate my wheelchair. The following year when I returned, I was blown away to find that my altered table was there waiting for me completely set for dinner. The same happened this year and Franklyn has moved on to another resort.
We also love the Tiano because it is wheelchair friendly and the beach is narrow enough (and steps from the pool) for someone with limited walking abilities to stick their feet into the ocean.
Are the bathrooms as nice as the new Riu Palace just two doors down? No. Do the rooms show their age? Yes. But the staff keep the Tiano as clean as can be. You will always seeing them cleaning everything. If your looking for a resort that still offerers an intimate relationship with it's staff, the Tiano is the place to go. But don't wait too long. Rumors around the resort are that the RIU chain are about to demolish this gem and turn it into another Riu Tiano Palace. I'm Hopping I get a chance to visit my extended family at the Tiano one more time before the bull dozer's move in.
If you're considering a vacation I highly recommend the Riu chain of resorts especially the Riu Tiano in Punta Cana.

Pros: The staff and beach location
Cons: none really

We just got back from a 5 day stay at the RIU Taino and it was awesome! The food was not quite the quality of other RIU resorts we stayed at, but it served it's purpose and was still tasty. The best part of the Taino is the staff. They are so friendly and out going and ready and willing to do all they can. The truly do go above and beyond every day. Tips are hard worked for and well deserved. The animation team was amazing and so much fun. The aqua gym is a must! So much fun!! You are allowed to partake of the resorts around you, but we were quite happy where we were and the beach at the Taino is better than any of the others. I have only stayed at RIU resorts and so far have never been given a reason to even look anywhere else.

Pros: Food, bars, beach, staff
Cons: none

A complete paradaise

We were at the Riu Taino between August 17th and 24th.

Tha airport is kind of tropical, big fans on the ceiling and palms leaves on the roof. There is not so much control on the baggage at the exit of the airport, so be carefully with your baggage.

The road trip from the airport to the hotel is about 35 minutes. We arrive around 7.30 pm and the welcome was with a non alcoholic cocktail . The check in was almost inmediatly, no longer that the time that take the check in card. And in the Rius you do not have to wear the arm brazalette.

We stay at room 871. The buildings are 2 floor with 4 habitations for building. Everything was working fine. A queen size bed and 2 singles bed, safe (included), fridge with some soft sodas and beer (included and replaced diary) and smal bar of bottles of rum, vodka, gin and whisky (included too). AA and ceiling fan. TV. A balconery to outside around 9 meters. When you open either the principal door or balcon door the AA stop working.

The walks around are beautifull gardens, very well maintened.

The food is excellent, for every taste I can imagine, for entrance there are lots of fruits, shrimps, caviar, salad, and goes on. For principal they always have plenty of choices (chicken, beef, fish, pork), pasta, pizza, and great variety of rice, potatoes, cheese, jam. The deserves are very good and ice cream too.

The bars are very good, I count 4 on the Taino, but you can go to the Riu Bambu bars and the Naiboa, We didn't try the disco and the casino (in te Riu Palaca Macao) seems to be small. There is an ATM Machine near the disco.

The pools are great, the swimp up bar at the Taino in small, but the Snack Bar is only few steps away. The pool at the Bambu is bigger and the swimpup bar its better, and more shadowed.

There is some a la carte restaurants, but we did not try any, because the night buffet was good enough.

The beach is spectacular, great, white sand, plenty of shadow and chairs, warm and clear water, some waves.

The bingo and night shows are good and very relaxing. One day in the week they do a parade in the Caribbean Street with so much fun.

The animation team was great, plenty of activities on schedule, they speak very well spanish, english and some other languajes.

All the stay was very friendly and kind, allways with a big "HOLA HOLA" .

There are spanish, germans, hollands, frenchs, brittish, italians, assians, we hear some russians and few latins.

In the trip back you have to pay $US 20 in cash for exit tax at the airport .

Greetings for: Argi (Animation Team Riu Taino), Victor (Pool Bar Riu Bambu), Bienvenida (Bar Riu Taino), Puello (Snack Bar Riu Taino) and all the staff of Riu Taino.

Pros:
Cons:

JoLee has asked me to post her following review. She's just recently returned home and has to leave again shortly. This was originally posted on Trip Advisor.

Dec.10 to Dec. 21 was a good time to get away on our first trip to Punta Cana,as very cold weather hit while we were gone.
We have stayed at Riu Mambo in Pt.,Plata 2 times, and were happy that on arrival we got a nice bldg. like the Mambo.

We had bldg. #24. Very close to Beach, and one of the few with a Ocean view from 2nd.floor.
It was clean with One double bed and One twin bed. Very Large Sun Deck with a nice view of gardens and distance view of the ocean.
Most bldgs. have 2 rooms UP and 2 rooms Down. Great as not too busy and quiet.
Free in room safe and free Liquor bar and fridge with Beer and pop and Water all supplied. We tipped a little, requested more Beer, and got LOTS.
I asked for more Pillows and a blanket ,got them right away.
Unit's are showing age. they seem to be painted ,in between guests,as I noticed fresh paint,on front of our bldg.,but NOT on the back.

In the Older Part(near small pool) the bldgs. are larger with mostly 4 rooms up and 4 rooms down. I went and looked at one, they seem to be clean, but even more dated.

The Taino staff were GREAT. Wow. ask for anything,or help and you will get it.
Tipping was Not expected, but we did tip with some USA,then used ATM and got Pesos. Small pesos are Hard to come by at the desks. ,but they even made the efforts to get us Lots..

The Beach was the Best ever. just Fantastic, clean and goes on and on for miles.
All the Rius are in a Row.
Taino bars are the closest to the Water., Riu Palace Macao has a beach bar,but for Palace guests only.

Bambu Riu seemed nice and their Swim-up bar was nice.

We walked thur Naiboa, and it seemed not to be so sharp. Many guests were NOT happy with the rooms there.
We were so glad we booked Riu Taino,as we had only steps to the Lobby/Buffet/Pools and Beach.
It is not a Hugh modern resort, we liked the smallness and closeness.

Food and Drinks were great. Never went hungry. Lol.
We went to the Steak House, good. and the Special Caribbean night that was also good.

Pools were COOL.,even the whirlpool.
Men chopped down trees to let it get more Sun. You will find it just past the end of the Big Pool, opposite end of the swim-up bar/snack bar.

We would return to the Taino Riu,if we got a good deal again.

Pros: The Beach, The Staff, The Room
Cons: The Food

My wife and I just returned from the RIU Taino (Jan11-18) and had another RIU great vacation. We stayed last time (see review)at the RIU Naiboa and decided to change up to the Taino this time. The hotel itself is very nice ,very clean and friendly. The staff quite good a special thanks to Luis(flash man) for being such a great bartender. Our room was 023 with a ocean and pool view exactly what I had requested so special thanks to Joanne at reception. The whole time we were there we were treated with true RIU Class . Our only complaint is that the food was very poorly presented, didnt taste very good at all, and very little change or good selection. Thanks to Roman at the RIU Naiboa he solved our problem by allowing us to eat "all" our meals at the Naiboa where we found the food excellent in all ways.

We would recommend the RIU Taino as a great vacation spot ..........
