Back from the Riu Taino with Pictures
Just got a chance to post some photos on line. Sorry to Cubalibre and the group that I missed them due to a late arrival. Had a fabulous vacation there. The Riu Taino is not the newest and shiniest resort on the beach but it's mature gardens, excellent service, location and friendly staff make up the difference. Thanks for a great vacation to Enrique, Elicia, Willy, Victor, Virginia, Miguel, Britika, Charlie, Cathy, Ramon and so many others on the staff !!!!

Fish
| Hey guys, just got back home from another travel commitment. Thanks for the compliments on the pictures. The fish pics were actually taken on the small reef just off the shore from the Taino. About a 100 yard swim. Just take out some banana or bread and the fish out there will be your friends. The water out around the reef was a bit "sandy" when we were there due to some wind during the week but still managed to get some pics of the fish. Not Sea World but good entertainment for a daily swim. |

Alf, welcome back and the pics are awesome . I'm almost embarrassed with mine. That Taino hot tub was a very cold tub.
I might try to paint some of those pics. There's so many great ones, but I'm leaning toward #12 beach and MORNING. I don't do anything fast, so if I try , it will be awhile. We wish we picked the week you arrived. It's a shame you didn't get to meet bamboo2006. Great guy with a great wife and friends . Talk to ya,

| Alf where exactly is the reef? I love to snorkle and Cuba has already dissuaded me from any plans to swim out to the shipwreck. I got a new setup for my camera underwater and I am dying to try it out. I used an aquapac last year but this year I bought the underwater case from Olympus. |

Reef
| There is a small reef about 100 yards straight out in front of the Taino pool area. It's is a few hundred feet long and runs parallel to the beach. It's not great but you will see lots of fish if you bait them. Just take banana or bread and they will eat out of your hand. Saw maybe 7 or 8 different varieties. The wreck on the outer reef is certainly out of the question. Only skilled divers using the services of the dive shops would venture out that far. There is some snorkeling up the beach past the Iberostar too I think. Same thing, small inner reef. These inner reefs are very safe. It is very important that you remain inside the safety ropes as there are many boats coming and going outside the designated swimming areas. |
