I keep hearing and reading that adapters are needed at the Riu Bambu, but I am still confused. What type of adapter will I need to plug in the cameral for charging or my cell phone? Thanks.

Your USA style plugs would fit - except that the sockets are recessed by maybe 1cm (there is a picture of one flashes up in my avatar on the left), this means that though a plug would fit - a power brick with the electrical connectors moulded on will not.

Tale a power strip with a short mains cord attached - Just so we don't get any misunderstanding between UK & American English ... one of these

You can get an adapter at reception, no charge. Just ask for one when you get there, and then you just return it at the end of your trip.

Have a great Holiday!!!

Thanks everyone for the information. This will be our second Riu experience. The first one in Cancun was awesome, so we can't wait to check out Riu Bambu.

Most of the American outlets are 2 prong, is it the same in DR or are they using 2 prong outlets only? Confused If I take a power strip, does it need to be 2 prong?

It would be a good idea to take a two pronged non-polarized plug. That's the kind that both prongs are the same size. Check the equipment you're taking - battery chargers, hair dryer, etc to see if you even need to take a power strip. My battery charger and toothbrush charger are non-polarized so the plug fits easily into the wall outlets.

Just a quick addendum:

The sockets will accept a two prong american plug (flat blade) or european shuko type plug. The sockets doe have a third ground/earth connector - I don't know if the position of this is compatible to 3 pin US style plugs (feedback on this would be useful)

One point is that the socket face is recessed by maybe 1cm - so US phone chargers etc. my not get close enough to connect.
