Cosmos declares RIU Hotels 'world's best chain’,
while JMC plauds hotels RIU Waikiki and RIU
Merengue
Major British tour operators have rewarded the quality of the RIU group
with various prizes at the recent World Trade Market, the tourism fair
held in London.
Tour operator Cosmos named RIU Hotels the 'world's best chain', based on
opinions gathered from its clients by questionnaire.
For its part, holiday wholesalers JMC named the RIU Waikiki, in Playa
del Inglés (Gran Canaria), 'best 2 or 3-star hotel in the Canaries' -
the Waikiki has 3 - and made special mention of the RIU Oliva Beach and
Apartments in Fuerteventura.
The same enterprise also awarded a prize to the 5-star RIU
Merengue, in Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic), in the
long-haul, 4 or 5-star category.
Special mentions were given to the RIU Mambo
- also in Puerto Plata -
the RIU Yucatán
(in Playa del Carmen, Mexico), and the
RIU Turquesa
(in
Varadero, Cuba).
JMC's prizes, called 'Partners In Excellence', are awarded on the basis
of decisions made by a panel of experts, whose criteria are very strict
and who take into account the opinions expressed by clients of the
various establishments.
Meanwhile, tour operator First Choice named the RIU Palace Maspalomas (Gran
Canaria) one of the five best in the year 2000.
The recently-held London tourism fair also saw the RIU chain receive the
'Environmental Company Award', the prestigious European ecological prize
given each year to a firm or institution for its environmental policy.
